Serum calcium in pulmonary tuberculosis.
نویسنده
چکیده
Serum calcium was studied serially in 94 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis. An equal number of ageand sex-matched patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were controls. Seventy patients in the study group were normocalcaemic and 10 were hypercalcaemic. These 10 were on a higher supplement of vitamin D than the 70 normocalcaemic patients. There was a positive correlation between the daily vitamin intake and the degree and duration of hypercalcaemia. None of the controls showed hypercalcaemia.

Background and Objective: Tuberculosis (TB) remains an ongoing major public health problem in the world. In recent years, experimental evidenc suggests a link between TB and Vitamin (Vit) D. This study was conducted to determine serum Vit D, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and parathormone (PTH) levels in untreated pulmonary TB (PTB) patients. Background: Lectin pathway mediates complement activation, which is activated by many microorganisms. This study aimed at determining the serum levels of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, assessing its relationship to antiuberculosis treatment response, and comparing them with a control group. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on...
متن کاملRaised serum calcium in tuberculosis patients in Africa.
Reports of raised serum calcium in the presence of tuberculosis have tended to be from centres where sunlight is plentiful. U.K.-based data have suggested that normocalcaemia prevails. In a prospective study of 15 African patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, resident in East Africa, corrected serum calcium was significantly lower in a control healthy group (2.59 mmol/l +/- 0.08 and 2.49 +/- 0....
